Police Captain Ron Rich
Saturday we learned that retired
Police Captain Ron Rich passed away. Captain Rich retired in December,
2006. He was looking forward to a long and busy retirement traveling
with his wife Marsha. Marsha is the Investigations Secretary at
the Police Department. She has been with us since 1979. You could
see Ron and Marsha together for lunch every day or fishing at the
lake. They were dedicated to each other, just as Ron was dedicated
to being a Junction City Police officer. Ron worked for the department
for 25 years. He advanced through the ranks from patrol division
as a sergeant, to lieutenant and finally captain of the Community
Involvement Team. Ron was a Junction City High School graduate and
a graduate of the School of the Ozarks. Ron will be missed. Our
heartfelt sympathies go out to Marsha and her family.
Employee Good-byes
Two great employees left our organization recently.
We are sad to see them leave, but happy that they were a part of
the team while we had them. Recreation Supervisor Nancy Biggs resigned
for health reasons. Nancy has worked for us for years. Her smiling
face was a fixture at the annual Halloween party or the Easter Egg
Hunt. She was always helping children. The little ones would hover
around her. Nancy has been a constant presence at the 12th Street
Community Center. She has worked with Boys & Girls Club and
helped with Wee Wigglers and Munchkin Art. She has also handled
after school events. Nancy managed the swimming pool for the City
several years. She was a dedicated employee who was loved by the
community. She will be missed, but will get to spend a lot more
time with her four beautiful grandchildren and her husband Larry.
Good luck, Nancy and good health!
March 21 was the last day of employment for
Economic Development Director, Josh McKim. He and his lovely wife,
Angie, and their two girls have moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma. Josh
has accepted the position of Economic Development Director for the
city of Stillwater. He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University
so this move like going home to him. Josh had an amazing impact
on our community the two short years he was here. He was instrumental
in turning Junction City into the Bioscience capital of Kansas.
During his tenure, he attracted Ventria Bioscience, Edenspace and
Lead Horse Technology. In addition, he brought CapGemini to our
community and worked with a number of other companies to expand
and develop in Junction City. His efforts will help our community
for years to come. It was a privilege working with him and learning
from him. I hope his family enjoys Oklahoma. He will always have
a home in Junction City. Thanks to Josh for a job well done!
