Celebrate the Junction City Fire Department
The City Commission started a new agenda item this
year focusing on Celebrating a different department at the second
City Commission meeting of the month. The presentation outlines
the successes of the department and provides information on the
department. The second celebration, on February 19, focused on the
Fire Department.
In 2007, the Fire Department responded to 30 structure
fires involving $6,852,000 of value. The total loss on these calls
was $592,300. This equates to a 91.36% save rate. The Department
gave four valorous commendation awards to four firefighter/EMT’s
recognizing them for saving a life. The Department provided smoke
detectors to 18 households. The smoke detectors are provided through
a grant from the Junction City Health Department.
The Fire Department applied for a SAFER grant that
would provide funds to hire six additional firefighters/EMT’s.
They completed the remodeling of kitchen facilities at Fire Station
#1.
On the EMS side, the department responded to 2,402
emergency calls that resulted in 1,422 patients being transported.
They transported 231 patients from one hospital to another. They
acquired a new 2006 Ford E450 ambulance and installed the Emergency
Management Service module of Firehouse computer software. Two of
the staff enrolled in paramedic training and one staff member began
EMT-1 training.
The Fire/EMS Department works hard to provide
the City and County residents outstanding service. They are to be
commended for their actions during 2007.
