Department Heads' Retreat

The department heads recently held their annual retreat at Rock Springs Ranch. The retreat is an opportunity for the staff to plan the year’s activities based on the City Commission’s goals and objectives, established each December. In addition, it gives the management staff an opportunity to develop as a team.

We spent some time with motivational speaker Bill Cordes. Bill is from Lawrence and he travels all over the country working with groups on the experiences of life. His YOGOWYPI philosophy bodes well for going through life. The acronym stands for “You Only Get Out What You Put In.” He inspired our team to think about how we remain positive and productive through difficult times. He believes that we can choose to feel bad, blame others, deny, or even quit. However, it is accepting where we are, learning from our mistakes, and then using them as an opportunity to grow that gives us real power in life.

Through several activities, it became abundantly clear that the 38 managers in the room that day are a true TEAM in every sense of the word. They are ready to provide outstanding service to the citizens of Junction City.
