Sewer
Back Ups
Citizens
experiencing sewage backing up in their homes should call
Veolia
Water Public Works (785-238-7142) or Police Department (785-762-5912)
Veolia
crews will initally check the upstream and downstream manholes to
determine if the City's sewer is backed up. Should the City's
sewer be backed up the line will be jetted to clear the blockage.
Crews should also noify the resident with the backup as to the determination
of the backup. On Call Veolia Public Works (785-223-1508).
Should the odor persist after checking all the traps, please call
Veolia Public Works or Police Department at the numbers listed above.
Sewer
Odors
Should
a resident detect a sewer odor, they should first check all their
traps connected to their sewer system. Often times the pea
traps of the drain systems dry up and allow the sewage odors to
enter the residence home.
Annual
and Monthly Flushes
In
certain areas of the City where there has been a history of sewer
problems due to flow rates and the abundance of turns within the
sewer lines, the Utility Maintenance worker flushes over 13,000
feet of sewer line on a monthly basis. The City conducts an annual
cleaning of all City manholes and sewer lines between April and
October of each year. This is part of our preventative maintenance
program, which covers over 344,000 feet of sewer line annually.
