Streets
Alleys
The
street Department is responsible for maintenance of all City alleys.
When weather permits, milling or base rock is graded into the alleys.
Alleys are usually serviced in the Spring or after heavy rainfalls.
If you have a problem with your alley, please call 238-7142.
Emergency
Sirens
The
Street Department maintains 14 emergency sirens, which are located
at East Street, Washington School, Municipal Building, St. Marys
Road, Meadow Lane, Coronado Park, Wheatland Drive, Filby Park, Cotton
Wood Trailer Court, Riverbend Trailer Court, Northwind Trailer Court,
Highland Cemetery, Geary Community Hospital, and Lacy Dr. The sirens
are tested on the first Monday of the month. A silent test is performed
and then a Police Department activated test, if the weather is fair.
The sirens will sound in case of emergencies (e.g. Tornados). If
you have any questions or problems regarding the emergency sirens,
please call 238-7142, or after hours or weekends call 762-5912.
Potholes
Repair
of potholes is the responsibility of the Street Department. Pothole
patching is done according to a priority basis with arterial (main)
streets being done first, followed by collector (secondary) streets,
and finally residential streets, with a periodic return to arterial
streets. If you have a complaint about potholes, please call 238-7142.
Snow
Removal
The
Street Department is responsible for snow and ice control within
the City limits. The goal is that streets will be plowed or treated
as soon as possible after the end of a storm. The arterial (main)
streets are cleaned first, then collector streets, and finally residential
streets.
Residents
are reminded that there is nothing City crews can do to prevent
snow from blocking driveways or mailboxes when they plow the roads.
City crews have nowhere but the curbside to push the snow onto.
For any questions or problems with snow removal, please call 238-7142.
Street
Sweeping
The
Street Department is responsible for the general sweeping of all
streets within the City. The City is broken into five general areas
for sweeping which are swept as follows: Monday, sweeping of Westwood;
Tuesday, sweeping of everything from Eisenhower to Washington and
from 1st Street north to the City Limits; Wednesday, sweeping everything
east of Washington Street; Thursday, sweeping everything to the
south of 5th Street to Highland Cemetery; and Friday, sweeping of
Indian Ridge, Green Hills and everything south of Ash and west of
Jackson.
Residents
are requested to pick up debris that is in the roadway in front
of their property. The Street Department does not clean up leaves
and grass clippings from street right-of-ways. It does not have
the equipment or the personnel to perform such duties. Residents
need to bag all yard debris and put it out on your normal trash
day. |
