Tree City USA

Junction City has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation.  It is the 28th year Junction City has received this national recognition.  The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.  To become a Tree City USA, a community must meet four standards:  a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance.

Tree Board

The tree board meets four times a year in order to promote an aesthetically pleasing and healthful urban environment by advising the City Forestry Department with regard to a planting program for trees, shrubs and flowers in the City.  The members of the tree board are:

Adopt a Tree Program

The City is offering an Adopt a Tree Program.  Under this program, property owners may purchase up to five trees from a preferred species list and are responsible for one-half the cost of the trees.  The trees would have to be planted on the City right-of-way.  If you are interested in participating in this program or have any questions please call Public Works at 238-7142.

Trees and Shrubs

All trees and shrubs are the responsibility of the property owner including those in the right-of-way according to Section 245.010 of the City Ordinance.  The Sanitation Department will pick up limbs and shrubs along with your regular trash as long as they are tied in bundles and no longer than 72 inches.  If you do not wish to bundle your limbs, you can request a Special Pickup by calling 238-7142.  The cost is $50 per load for City Sanitation customers, or $75 for those who are not.

In case of severe storms, the Public Works Department will do a one-time pickup of all downed trees and limbs.  All limbs and tree debris must be brought to the curb or alley for easy access with a front-end loader.  If you have any questions, please call 238-7142
