The Police K-9 section is assigned to the Narcotics Section. It presently consists of one canine, Figo (a German Shepherd), and his handler, Officer Nick Blake. The K-9 unit is tasked with the detection of illegal narcotics through highway interdiction and other traffic stops. As part of their special assignments, they participate in organized activities to include fugitive tracking and search warrants with the Drug Operations Group.

From August 2005 to March 2006, the K-9 Unit was involved in 20 felony arrests, 3 of those turned over to the DEA for Federal Prosecution.  Figo was involved in 280 calls for deployment. 165 patrol and outside agency calls for assistance, and 5 demonstrations in the community. This led to the seizure of 1140 ounces of Marijuana, 16 ounces of Methamphetamine, and 7 ounces of Cocaine.  Also, $39,608 in cash was forfeited along with numerous vehicles.

The K-9 Unit also assisted in numerous cases involving the Tactical Response Unit, the Drug Operations Group, the Patrol Division, and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
