Emergency
Medical Service
The Emergency
Medical Service of Junction City is actually a division of the Junction
City Fire Department that provides Basic Life Support and Advanced
Life Support pre-hospital care and transport for all of Geary County,
including Junction City, Milford, and Grandview Plaza.
The Fire Department
consists of 51 trained firefighters that are cross trained to perform
Emergency Medical Services as well as fire suppression, rescue operations,
and hazardous materials operations. Our personnel hold emergency
medical certifications from the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic
level through the level of Paramedic. The Junction City Fire Department
is very progressive in the area of Emergency Medical Services. In
1998, we were the first EMS organization in the State of Kansas
to implement the EMT-Intermediate level advanced initiatives, allowing
our EMT-intermediates to perform endotracheal intubation and administer
Albuterol in the field.
The
Junction City Fire Department also has very progressive emergency
medical service protocols, allowing our Paramedics and EMT-Intermediates
to initiate intravenous access and endotracheal intubation. All
Junction City Fire Department personnel are trained in semi-automated
or manual external defibrillation. Through these progressive protocols
our Paramedics have the ability to perform other key medical management
procedures such as chest decompression, crichothyrotomy or surgical
airway, rapid sequence intubation, and adult and pediatric intraoseous
infusion. Our Paramedics also provide advanced life support by having
the ability to administer 27 different emergency medications, as
well as provide cardiac defibrillation and transcutaneous pacing.
All
continuing education is provided in house by our Kansas Certified
Training Officers and our three Kansas Certified Instructor Coordinators.
Our goal is to obtain 6-9 more paramedics in the next couple of
years through an in house training program and through the hiring
process.
The
Junction City Fire Department strives to provide the best pre-hospital
emergency care possible to our residents, as well as those visiting
or passing through our community.
