Department
Overview
The
Junction City Fire Department is a full time paid department consisting
of two stations. Headquarters at 700 N. Jefferson Street and Station
II at 2245 Lacy Drive.
The
Junction City Fire Department currently operates with 3 shifts.
Our current rotation consists of 24 hours on duty, 48 hours off
duty.
Each
shift operates with a minimum manning of 13 on duty with 18 assigned
to each shift. Headquarters operates with 11 personnel (minimum
requirement of 7). Personnel consists of 1 Battalion Chief, 1 Captain,
1 Firefighter/Paramedic and 8 Firefighter/EMTs. Station II operates
with 7 personnel (minimum requirement of 6) 1 Captain, 1 Firefighter/Paramedic
and 5 Firefighters/EMTs.
The
first out apparatus must be staffed with a minimum of 4 personnel.
The
Junction City Fire Department currently operates with 1 Fire Chief,
1 Fire Marshall, 1 Office Manager, 3 Battalion Chiefs, 6 Captains,
6 Firefighter/Paramedic's and 39 Firefighter/EMTs.
The
Junction City Fire Department currently provides Fire Protection
throughout all of the City limits of Junction City, which is about
8.0 square miles. Our EMS coverage is for all of Geary County which
is 404 square miles.
We
responded in 2007 to 1,079 fire incidents and 2,402 EMS calls for
an average of 9.5 calls per shift. The following is a response history

The
Junction City Fire Department has four Certified Fire Investigators
for investigation of fire incident responses. In 2006 there were
30 suspicious fires that were investigated as arson.
We
currently have mutual aid agreements for Fire Protection with the
following agencies: Abilene, Kansas; Grandview Plaza, Kansas; Fort
Riley, Kansas; Milford, Kansas; and Geary County.
