The
JCFD provides ALS care and transport, Rescue, and Haz-Mat response
to all residents of Geary County , as well as Fire Suppression for
the City of Junction City . The JCFD is a full time paid department
of 51 line firefighters responding out of two stations. The JCFD
is headquartered at 700 N Jefferson Street, and station II is located
at 2245 Lacy Drive .
The
JCFD currently operates with three shifts of 18. Our current rotation
consists of 24 hours on duty, 48 hours off duty. All members of
the department are cross trained, and perform both firefighting
and EMS duties. All fire training is in-house unless currently certified.
In 2008 we responded to 1,235 fire incidents
and 2,726 EMS calls for an average of 10.9 calls per shift.
Specialized Rescue and Extrication Training.
JCFD uses a very progressive set of
protocols, with liberal standing orders for out-of-hospital care.
Our crews have a great relationship with physicians and nurses at
area Emergency Departments.

Members of JCFD have the ability to
join the IAFF union Local 3309 who negotiates contracts with the
City.

Through
Kansas Police and Fire Retirement System (KPF). Employees pay 7%
of their gross salary. Retirement pay is based on 2.5% of final
average salary for each year of service. Maximum retirement of 80%
for 32 years of service.
Fireman's
Relief Association
Provides life insurance policy and pays 85% of premium while
employed with the Junction City Fire Department. Provides accident
and sickness insurance policy also.

City provides Workers Compensation benefits for all firefighters
injured or disabled at work.
NOTE
– Firefighter
positions which are designated in the bargaining unit by the Kansas
Public Employees Relations Board are represented by the International
Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local #3309. Wages, hours of
work, and working conditions are subject to contract negotiations.
