Repairs & Upkeep
Fix
It Yourself
You
need to know the Code requirements ... AND ... you need to know
what you`re doing! If you`re the owner of the property, and living
at the property, you can make repairs to your home. Will you need
a building permit? The best way to know is to give us a call.
Any
kind of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and gas repairs beyond
those due to normal wear and tear to a property need a building
permit and inspection by the Code Enforcement Department. By getting
a building permit, you can be sure that a trained professional will
check your work, if for nothing else, for safety`s sake.
What
is often taken for granted as safe can hide a hidden danger. Improper
electrical wiring, leaking water or sewer gases, improperly vented
heating units, can all be harmful, if not deadly.
The
yellow pages of your phone book is a good place to start looking
for reputable Contractors that can help you get the job done. The
Code Enforcement Department can tell you if they are licensed and
insured to work in Junction City, and may be able to tell you if
there has been any complaints about a Contractor.
Bring
any renovation plans into the Code Enforcement Department for review
before you move that wall or take out that window. What may seem
like an easy weekend project could end up a very costly repair project
for you.
As
a reminder, if you are cited by a City Inspector for not having
the proper permits, permit fees double.
Getting
your permit will only take a few minutes of your time, and are essentially
issued immediately unless there are problems with zoning or codes.
Bring in a drawing and estimate of costs for your project as building
permits are written on that valuation. Craft Permits for electrical,
plumbing, heating and air conditioning, sewer and gas are $15.00
for each required permit.
You
can get the answers to many of your building code and building permit
questions by calling the Code Enforcement Department, Monday through
Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, 785-238-3103 ext 182. |
