Fencing
Fencing
is the perfect final touch to your outdoor landscaping. You should
know that there are zoning and permit requirements that need to
be checked on before you install the fence.
Fencing
contractors are not licensed by the City of Junction City. Be sure
to check out your contractor by asking them for references, and
then contact those references before they start your project.
Bring
a certified drawing of your property to the City Inspection Department
for Zoning approval before you place your fencing to be sure that
the fence is being placed on your property, and that you are not
crossing over any easements that cannot be blocked.
You
will not need a building permit if your fence is not over six feet
high. The maximum height for a fence on the front of your property
is five feet. The maximum height for a fence on the side and rear
is eight feet. An eight foot fence does require a building permit.
The
front and side fence must not exceed a height of five feet for a
distance of twenty-five feet behind the front property line parallel
to the street. On a corner lot, the front yard is along the shortest
road frontage.
Common
sense should be applied when choosing your fencing materials. If
you`ve always wanted that house with the white picket fence, be
sure the tops of the pickets are rounded off and not pointed so
that injuries can be avoided. Junction City does have a fencing
materials ordinance that reads as follows:
SECTION
220.850: FENCE, BARB WIRE, IRON POINTS
It
shall be unlawful for any person to place or keep any barb wire
or sharp iron points on any railing, fence or posts within the City
limits of Junction City, Kansas, except when placed around the top
of a security fence in non-residential areas, and for law enforcement
purposes and except as otherwise required by City Ordinance.
