Junction
City’s 2008 Spring Clean-Up
It’s Spring Cleaning time and we need everyone’s help.
The month of May is Junction City’s spring clean-up. This
is the time to get rid of all those items that have been sitting
unused or that you’ve been wondering about disposing of properly.
Litter attracts more litter, whether its trash that blows into your
yard or consumer waste products that are carelessly handled or improperly
disposed. A clean community, by contrast, discourages littering
and raises local living standards and quality of life.
Everyone
shares a personal responsibility to help prevent litter in Junction
City and each of us can make a big difference in the behavior of
others. Understanding where litter comes from is a good place to
start.
There
is no such thing as a single source of litter or a single profile
of a litterer. What we do know is that there are primary sources
of litter:
Pedestrians
or cyclists who do not use trash receptacles.
• Motorists who do not use car ashtrays or litter bags.
• Business dumpsters that are improperly covered.
• Construction and demolition sites without tarps and receptacles
to contain debris and waste.
• Trucks with uncovered loads on local roads and highways.
• Household trash scattered before or during collection.
• Pet waste fouling neighbors' yards or public spaces in
your neighborhood.
This
month, when you take a walk, carry a small trash bag along to pick
up litter along the way. If we all pitch in, Junction City will
be an even better place to call home.
